Is there anybody there?

Orange

Food and the 4.5 year old is sometimes tricky. Currently he has an aversion to anything orange, no orange juice or oranges or carrots…or anything remotely orangey. I was getting a little frustrated with this until I realised that I share his dislike, except not in terms of food. I never buy anything orange and I don’t really like anything orange. When he was little I rejected two brands of car seat because the safety straps were orange, I would never buy an orange item of clothing for myself or him. I struggle at Halloween. Turns out there is a name for this – Chrysophobia. Well, there you go. For anyone interested, I also have problems with a particular shade of pale blue. When I was about 6 my Grandad had a stroke and collapsed in front of me whilst wearing a pale blue jumper and it just stuck right in my mind. My mum also tells me I refused to wear the clothes I had on that day ever again.

Oh, is that a person in a white coat over there? Yes I’ll come quietly…. *manic laugh*

Thematically speaking

The boy has a party to go to tomorrow, for one of his nursery friends. When he asked this morning if it was soft play (his preferred type of party) or games (very much his second choice as he is still a bit young to understand all the “rules” of the more advanced ones) I didn’t know so like the wonderful mum I am (not) I googled the venue. Turns out the places specialises in themed events including cheer leading parties, hair and nail parties, even Mamma Mia! parties. The mind boggles. So, I get to spend another Saturday morning making polite conversation with a bunch of other mums while he does his thing, whatever that is. I’m not always good at this, especially when the conversation turns to their holiday homes abroad or what restaurant they’re going to that evening, however I have sussed out a couple of really nice people who I’m more than happy to get to know better over the years if I get the chance, thank goodness. Still, part of me will be glad when that part of the weekend is over.

Opportunities

One of my resolutions this year was to say “yes” to more things, so when someone asked at the weekend if I would like to join a singing group they knew I said the Y word. I immediately started to fret a bit when the email confirming this came through yesterday (the habit of “oh, I’m not sure I really want to/can be bothered” kicking in true to form) , but I’m sticking with it and will go along next week all being well.

I’m not sure about publishing my other resolutions here yet.

Pics

A friend got me thinking about writing this blog and also taking photos. I’d heard about 365 photos, the idea being ( I think) to take a photo every day as a kind of record of the year. So here is a picture for today. There is however no way in the world that I’ll manage a picture a day, and if I commit to that online I’ll just get all stressed about not keeping up, but what I am going to try to do is use my camera more for everyday things and post the results here. Committing to a photo a day for me would be like taking out a gym membership and then feeling bad when you don’t go…been there, done (or rather, not done!) that. However, major applause for my pal who is doing really well.

Anyway the first pic is a remnant of Christmas, a box of crackers that I’d bought in the sales in January 2008 intended for use this past Christmas…but completely forgotten about until it came to storing away all this year’s decorations. They are currently languishing under my bed until I can think 0f a place to put them where I might remember them in time!
